Each month, our KUDUCOM Kares series highlights a local organization making a meaningful impact in the Tampa Bay community. These are the groups doing important work that often flies under the radar. This month, we’re proud to spotlight Dawning Family Services, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families with children who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
For over 40 years, Dawning Family Services has provided emergency shelter and wraparound services for families with children who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This includes single-parent households, two-parent families, expectant mothers, and guardians with children.
What makes Dawning Family Services truly unique is their low-barrier, housing-first approach. Rather than placing hurdles between families and the help they need, they focus on removing barriers. Their philosophy is simple: find ways to say yes and help families get in, not reasons to keep them out. These challenges are part of a much larger, systemic issue but Dawning Family Services is meeting it head-on with compassion, urgency, and long-term solutions.
Leading this incredible work is Tammi Casagni, CEO of Dawning Family Services. Tammi has been with the organization for more than a decade, starting as Director of Programs and now spearheading strategic efforts as CEO to expand services and meet the growing need in our area.
